Job Description

As a Healthcare Assistant, you will receive training to join our healthcare team where
you will be valued and supported, with career development opportunities available. You will join a team that works well together to provide care to people with Dementia and Nursing needs.

Job Responsibilities

You will assist in caring for our patients as well as the maintenance of the patient environment in terms of cleanliness, tidiness and restocking of supplies. Must be flexible and prepared to work at short notice. This role will assist in tasks such as monitor patients' conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations, and weight. Support for examination and treatment under the supervision and guidance of a qualified nurse. You will be distributing and serving food, assists patients in feeding and prepares snacks and hot drinks. Task involving assisting patients in washing, dressing and other general mobility.

To act as a key worker for a number of service users. Ensuring that you greet any service users, for whom you are a key worker, on admission to the washing, bathing, and home and assist them to settle in

 > To assist the service users in personal care including dressing and toilet needs

> Responding promptly to call bells

> To report any accidents or unexplained injuries immediately to the nurse in

 charge

> To ensure that service users are socially presentable in appearance at all times

> To ensure that service users have any aids e.g. Dentures, Hearing Aids, Spectacles etc. fitted, cleaned and in working order


 > To assist the service users in rehabilitation activities under the guidance and supervision of the Home Manager


 > To assist in the cleaning of the Home as the need arises, particularly the dining areas after meals and to support infection control e.g. cleaning up after spills immediately


> To pay due respect to service users' possessions and to ensure that bedrooms and communal areas are tidy and presentable


 > To be resourceful in the use of supplies


> To work at all times, within the guidelines of the Health & Safety at Work act 1974, Employee Handbook and Company Health and Safety Policy and Procedure


> To be aware of all fire exit means of escape from the Home


> To complete all Company Health & Safety and Fire Checks as requested


> To ensure readiness to commence work at the time stated on the Duty Rota and not to abandon duty without permission from the Home Manager or


Nurse-in-Charge


> To adhere to the policy relating to personal appearance and the uniform policy whilst on duty


> To ensure that articles for laundry are sluiced if soiled before placing into correct container


> To read and implement the Company Policy and Procedure for Infection Control


> To ensure the appropriate segregation of waste material. That it is disposed of in accordance with current legislation and Company Policy and procedure for Infection Control


> To report to the nurse in charge any changes to an individual service users condition and any other relevant matter, noting especially any changes in skin condition


> To report to the nurse in charge any verbal concerns or complaints raised by the service user or visitors


> To recognise your own caring limitations and to seek guidance from the Home Manager or trained nursing staff as appropriate


 > To refer all enquiries regarding the care or condition of service users to the senior nursing staff irrespective of the source of the enquiry


> To respect the rights of the service users including privacy and dignity


> To assist in the serving and clearing of meals, snacks and drinks


> To assist service users to eat and drink, monitoring intake and reporting any

concerns to the nurse in charge

 

> Complete all food and fluid charts and any other daily monitoring records as requested


> To undertake any training necessary for the completion of your duties. To be aware of Mandatory training and dates to attend training


> To attend staff and other meetings as requested


> To undertake any other duties as and when required


> To abide by all company Policies and Procedures in accordance with the Staff Handbook and Policy and procedure file


> To participate in social activities with service users and to use all the interactions with residents as an opportunity for stimulation/occupation


> To report any concerns re possible abuse of service users immediately to the person in charge


> To respect the confidentiality of the service users and their home life at all times, including when you are using social networking systems

Person Specification:

Essential:

> Must have completed BSc Nursing

> Genuine interest in working within a caring environment

> Ability to communicate effectively at all levels

> Proficiency in the English language proven through the IELTS exam

> Team player

 > Willingness to participate in vocational training programs

 > Satisfactory police check and check against the ISA list (where applicable)

 > Basic understanding of the Health & Safety at Work Act

 > Basic understanding of Infection Control

Desirable:

 > Previous experience working in a care setting or hospital

 > Relevant vocational Qualification (achieved or working towards) Evidence of having undertaken relevant training (i.e. Moving & Positioning, Health & Safety, Food hygiene etc.)
